Lon is easily the best personal and group fitness trainer I have had the pleasure (and pain!) of working with. Over the years, despite my own sporting mediocrity, I have trained under Olympic rowing coaches, international rugby players, military fitness instructors and a dozen or so professional PTs and group fitness instructors. Lon offers something I have rarely encountered in all that time in the form of deep understanding of the body, mastery in several martial arts and defensive forms and an unending positivity that completes his holistic approach to health and conditioning. He is also a deep thinker who applies his knowledge of psychology and human behaviours to help you step out of habitually harmful ways into a better version of yourself. I have taken his weekly circuits and boxing classes at my workplace for the last three years and, more recently, participated in a self-defence classes prepared specifically for the needs of our company situated in central London. On occasion this has been one-to-one and Lon has shown me how well he understands me, my motivations and my limitations. I have a minor disability and he has helped me continue to make this a non-issue in my training; I have improved in flexibility and dynamic range of motion; I have learned many new training modes and exercises and I have made real progress in boxing techniques and the self-defence skills he teaches. And most valuable to me, I have made a trusted friend with whom I have shared some of the recent challenges of my personal life, confident in Lon’s discretion and practical advice. In April a family member sustained life threatening injuries in a fall - Essex Air Ambulance attended the scene and due to their professionalism and speed saved his life. As a way of thanking the dedicated workers of Essex Air Ambulance I signed up to do the Brighton Marathon in April and raise as much money as possible (last count was £4k) ….I have never ran a Marathon before but I was highly motivated to complete it!!!!!!
I began getting myself into shape with the aid of a Marathon Planner. I already knew I had flat feet so I went about getting the correct running shoes. After a few weeks training I was picking up niggling injuries to my left ankle and the muscle behind the right knee on regular basis which was progressively getting worse.
Not only was this very painful but it was interfering with my training schedule as I would need to recover for long periods of time before commencing training again. I decided to get professional help. I had a posture assessment with Lon and he was able to identify my problem areas, including that my left leg is slightly longer than my right resulting in me putting 60% of my body weight on it. This had a knock on effect on my whole body especially during long runs.
As a result of the posture assessment, its findings and Lon’s bespoke exercise plan. I was able to complete my training and most importantly I am delighted to have completed the Brighton Marathon … all 26.2 miles of it. I can’t recommend highly enough how important getting a posture assessment is, my only regret is that I didn’t get it done sooner!!

I first met Lon at my place of where offers in house Personal Training . I quickly realise that some one-to-one sessions would help me to get on track for good, after a good few years without properly exercising. Before signing the master-student contract, I had a long discussion with Lon about my goals, what I wanted to achieve and what I was willing to do to get where I wanted to be. When I felt like giving up, I often referred to this contract, which did help me to stay focus on my objectives. I particularly appreciated Lon’s patience, personality and, even more importantly for a PT, his extensive knowledge of different sports and his passion for teaching them. Whether it is boxing, self-defence, circuit training or spending one-hour focus on a particular technique until the student masters it. It is never boring! We all know the proverb “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Thanks to Lon, I have learned how to fish for the rest of my life.

“I first started to train with Lon as a PT due to issues with my back. After a long period of back pain and bad posture I felt I had to do something about it as any medicines I was prescribed were only momentary solutions.
I think my biggest surprise with training with a PT was the amount of training and muscle groups you could work on during one session when someone is tailoring the exercises for you specifically.
Another revelation was that although my back was the source of my physical pain and discomfort, in fact there were other underlying weaknesses that created this pain. Without having trained with Lon I would have probably never have realised this.
Apart from the obvious issue with my back which led me to train with Lon, I found that after having trained for a while there was so much more that improved apart from my back. My sleep greatly improved, I have better confidence, I deal with stress better, I have more energy throughout the day and taking care of my body by exercising also naturally motivates me to take care of myself in other areas such as nutrition and way of living.
Training with a PT is something everyone should do at some point in their life as it is a life investment. Not only does it teach you what to do, but it also means errors in your training are being picked up. Training with Lon has been such a great experience, whenever I have had moments where my motivation has not been at its best Lon has always been a great support and motivator. It is an experience I would recommend to everyone.”

“Most importantly, Lon is a lot of fun to train with. Despite always working hard, we also have a good laugh together. I never dread going to my PT sessions
I have achieved all my weight loss goals, as well as feeling healthier, more toned and having more energy. It has also permanently changed my outlook on exercise and healthy eating.
As a self confessed exercise phobe who had never stepped foot inside a gym before, I was interested in personal training as I felt I needed some guidance on what exercises would work best for me. I signed up for four PT sessions to start with and found these so beneficial that I have continued training with Lon for the past 7 months.
One thing I like about our training sessions is that they are always varied. I never know what to expect, which means they never get boring and I am constantly learning and being encouraged to push myself to new levels. Lon never lets me take the easy route out and makes me work hard, but I like being challenged as this makes me more determined and keeps me motivated.
Lon takes a very active approach to nutrition and encourages me to keep a food diary, which we discuss at the start of each session. His approach is not about calorie counting, but about getting you to consciously think about what type of food you are eating. He has taught me a lot of interesting information about nutrition, which has helped me make some really beneficial changes to my diet in the long term.
I would highly recommend Lon to anyone who is considering a personal trainer.”
